This 100% natural paper is now known as saa paper and it has become a unique and local handicraft product that is exported through the world. The HQ Paper Maker company offers a fun and creative half-day workshop to learn the techniques of making Saa Paper with natural dye and flower ornaments.
The workshop takes place at a homefactory some 40 minutes from city centre. HQ Paper Maker team picks you up at your hotel and drives you to this typical Northern Thai village, which by itself is a great trip through Chiang Mai’s countryside. After explaining the history and showing the techniques of saa paper making, they will take you to their flower garden for you to choose the ones you like (butterfly pea, bougainvillea, orange flower and many more). They will then guide you through handson making of rough saa paper, and saa paper with flower petals and leaves as decoration. This is when you can exercise your creativity as much as you wish!
On the way back to town, you will visit HQ Paper Maker Gallery - offering superb saa paper production and all accessories made with it, such as : handmade paper, art paper, seed paper, note books, envelopes and greeting cards.
Twenty four hours later, your paper sheets will be sun dried, packed and deliver to your hotel to take back home. And it might quickly become your favourite souvenir from Chiang Mai city!
