The end of the rainy season in Chiang Mai means that indigo plants have flourished and are ready to be harvested.
This is the time of the year when Studio Naenna’s team shares it’s love of Indigo process and eco-textiles by organizing indigo workshops at their beautiful Chiang Mai studio.
These workshops run for three consecutive days, approximatly 3-4 hours each day, and place an opportunity for artists, fashion designers students and sustainability lovers to discover how indigo colour is made, from harvesting the indigo plant to dyeing a product. It also allows participants to meet with Patricia Cheesman Naenna and her daughter Lamorna who initiate the workshops as well as all the women behind this unique handicraft brand.
Studio Naenna produces exquisitely crafted clothing, scarves, accessories and wall hangings made from ancient weaving techniques such as weft ikat and supplementary weft. The textiles created under
their roof are handmade and ecological in every sense of the term. Indigo seeds are sown by hand, the plants are nurtured and harvested with hand farming methods and dyeing, weaving and sewing are all done by hand.
In a fast-changing world of technological and digital revolution, creativity and creative industries hold an incredible potential to drive sustainable development and create inclusive job opportunities. Studio Naenna is one of these family-style textile companies working towards a sustainable economic growth.
Studio Naenna will be holding indigo dyeing workshops this November from 6th to 8th and from 21st to 23rd. Booking early is recommended as places are limited and fill quickly. You can also contact them if you wish to organize private workshops. And if you only have limited time, you can visit their studio at any time between 9am and 5pm to have a quick look on hand-made fabric process and beautiful clothing product.
