Known as the “northern rose”, Thailand’s second largest city continues to bloom. Aside from beautiful mountain views and unique temples, Chiang Mai is known
worldwide for its well-designed distinctive arts and crafts. Today, these traditional forms are being improvised by younger and a more fashionable generations who have learned to combine rich traditions with trendy designs. The results are new handicrafts that are original, contemporary and cutting edge.
But what makes Chiang Mai so special is that all these crafts are made by local hands. In this issue of Chang Puak magazine, we would like to highlight some of these creative spirits. Of course Chiang Mai has so many more talented artisans whose work stands out for its originality and innovation, and we will keep presenting them to you. Established in 2006, Ecoism offers creative services and state-of-the-art green products. Get immersed in Chiang Mai’s impressive textile art scene at Studio Naenna’s main gallery and Nimman showroom “Adorn”. The two eco-textile studios are home to exquisite artisan works. Studio Naenna has been crafting hand-woven eco textiles, clothing and accessories since 1985 with the aim of helping local weavers access the international market. As lovers of textiles, owner Patricia Cheesman and her daughter Lamorna, have authored books about Asian
weaving techniques. Studio Naenna showcases dying and weaving techniques and organizes workshops on indigo dying, while “Adorn” presents a beautiful range of hand woven eco-cotton and silk including garments for men and women, shawls, bags, wall murals and accessories.

Perhaps the trendiest annual event of Chiang Mai featuring clothing, jewelry, home decor and galleries. All hand made by young and local designers. This year the event has been postoned to January 28th to February 2nd, 2017. Another great week of design products and meeting with artisans!
