BANANA BLOSSOM

Banana blossoms are one of the many unusual ingredients that can be found in Thai cooking. In Thai language, it is called Hua Plee and every part of it can be used. Meanwhile, the best part of it is the light ivory leaves in the center.

The flavor of the blossom ranges from subtle to strongly astingent, depending on the maturity, and which part is used. It does not, however, taste like bananas, more like
an artichoke. Banana blossoms can be eaten raw or cooked, it is a flavor that cannot be forgotten once experienced.

In Thai cooking, every part of the banana blossom can be used. The inner light yellow blossom fronds are the most popular, widely used in Pad Thai, salads, curries, soup or as vegetable accompaniment to relish.
