This taster tour of northern Thailand will take you through the spectacular limestone mountains of Chiang Dao and the scenic village of Mae Salak, straddling the Mae Kok River. Thailand has an abundance of waterfalls, caves, rivers and temples and these won’t be missed on this tour. You will start the ride at Buathong Waterfall and then follow country back roads to a large reservoir on the edge of Sri Lanna National Park. The second day begins with a tour of the Chiang Dao Caves before heading out into the light and riding among soaring limestone cliffs on a mixture of dirt paths cut by local hill tribes. The third morning you will follow the Mae Kok river to the town of Mae Salak to end one of the most scenic rides of the trip. The last day, you will ride an off-road trail and then change vehicles to a boat as you hitch a ride on a long-tail boat. The tour breaks at a hot spring, an ancient teak house and a white temple finish off the tour in Chiang Rai City.
Day to Day
Day 1 Mae Ngad Reservoir – Chiang Dao Tribal Trails
After the pickup from hotel in the morning, you will be transfered to start off at Buathong waterfall. A walk up the waterfalls will get your legs warmed up and ready to ride. The cycling tour will start through a teak tree farm, with the various ages of the trees listed. From there, the ride continues along country back roads and through rice paddies. A short stop at Mae Ngad reservoir will allow you to rest and enjoy the lake side view from the dam. End your day in the relaxing swimming pool of the hotel where you will check in for the night.

Day 2 Chiang Dao Tribal Trails
Morning transfer from the resort to the Chiang Dao Caves, which is the start point of the day ride. After a visit to the cave you will ride through rice fields set among soaring limestone cliffs. This ride will be a mixture of dirt paths cut by local hill tribes and you may meet some local hill peoples : Akha, Lisu and Palaung living in the area.

Day 3 – Back Roads to Mae Salak
After breakfast the SpriceRoads team will transfer you to Fang for the start of the ride. From there ride the back roads through many small villages. The ride to Mae Salak follows the Mae Kok river and is one of the most scenic ride on the trip. You will end your day’s pleasurable ride at the small town of Mae Salak with enough time to take a walk and dicover the surroundings plus enjoying the well-situated resort. After enjoying the view over the river from your room, or having a dip in the pool, you’ll be entertained by local Lahu children who will come to the resort and perform traditional music and dances.

Day 4 – Ride to Chiang Rai.
Start from the resort and ride 8 km (optional) off road to a Lahu village where you will hitch a ride on a long-tail boat (bikes are taken on board) on the Mae Kok River. Once back on solid ground, cycle to some natural hot springs and then back track a short bit to head to Chiang Rai. You will cycle to Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park to see a cluster of teak structures constructed in the styles of traditional Lanna and Tai hill-tribes set in a lovely landscaped lake garden. After a break, ride on to Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple. From there ends the tour with transfer to your Chiang Rai city hotel or to the airport. | Ride 40 km.
