ELEGANCE - The Consul's Garden

ELEGANCE

Tucked away along Ping river, in the exquisite garden of Le Coq d’Or, sits one of this season’s hottest new restaurants and pastries paradise - The Consul’s Garden. This chic cantine was once the private residence of William Alfred Rae Wood, the first British Consul in Chiang Mai from 1921-1970.

Born in 1878 in Liverpool, England, W.A.R Wood was appointed Vice Consul in 1905 in Nan Province. He married Mrs Punya Jitpreecha one year later and they moved to Chiang Mai in 1913, when he became the first British Consul.

Built in 1915, this property houses three beautiful buildings in colonial style, it was W.A.R. Wood’s peaceful and calming home until the age of 91 years. In this garden, watching the enormous Rain tree that he had planted with his wife, he wrote a book named “Consul in Paradise, Sixtyeight years in Siam”.

Coffee at The Consul’s Garden is an exclusive moment served with an elaborate balancing syphon and drip machine and coffee beans from different origins. Sophisticated elegance is what describes best The Consul’s Garden, with casual chic interiors and a bucolic garden overlooking the Ping river. The cosy indoor restaurant is designed around a magnificent veranda,
with beautiful views on the garden. Inside,
the white furniture provides a calming and
relaxing setting for couples, groups of friends
or business meetings.

Menu at The Consul’s Garden offers a selection of delicate pastries and pies by Chef Norberto from Spain, as well as allday brunch and lunch by innovative Chefs, surpervised by Le Coq d’Or’s culinary artists. Choose the smoked duck salad with balsamic dressing (220THB), the whole wheat club sandwich (220THB) or seafood pasta sauteed with Crayfish, scallop, mussel and fishes in tomato sauce (400THB). “Consul in Paradise” is the house’s signature dish: Foie Gras served with peach sauce, egg benedict and smoked salmon croissant (650THB), a must-try for foie gras lovers!

Every Saturday and Sunday, go back in time and enjoy afternoon tea in the garden: delicate sandwiches, cakes and pastries served in fine porcelain tea set (899THB per set).

When it comes to cocktails, try a perfectly styled Irish Coffee or a Time in the Garden (blue curacao with rose, strawberry syrup and soda water).

Watching the sun set from the beautiful garden with a cocktail in hand - what better way to start the evening?
