Run by renowned animal rights conservationist Sangduen “Lek Chailert”, the Elephant Nature Park lets you get up close to these majestic animals. At the park elephants roam in groups of two or three, nibbling on fruit and rolling in mud. To date, 70 elephants live here, all were saved from logging or tourism related activities; each elephant is free to chooseits own family group and can have as much or as little human interaction as it chooses. INTRODUCING “NO SADDLE PROGRAM”
If you are heading to Chiang Mai and meeting with elephants is on your bucket list, you may consider a “No Saddle Program”, allowing you to interact with the gentle giant with no show and no riding. Carrying people on their backs all day leads the giant animal to permanent spinal injuries, and the chair
placed on its back causes rubbing, then blisters, which can be infected.
