Hands-On Making Saa Paper with HQ Paper
Over 600 years ago in the mountains of Chiang Mai, people found a remarkable bark that naturally peeled from the trunk of trees at the end of the rainy season. They began to collect this bark and crafted a natural paper out of it. This 100% natural paper is now known as saa paper and it has become a
unique and local handicraft product that is exported through the world. The HQ Maper Maker company offers a fun and creative half-day workshop to learn the techniques of making Saa Paper with natural dye and flower ornaments. The workshop takes place at a home-factory some 40 min.from city centre. HQ Paper Maker team picks you up at your hotel and drives you to this typical Northern Thai village, which by itself is a great trip through Chiang Mai’s countryside. After explaining the history and showing the techniques of saa paper making they will take you to their flower garden for you to choose the ones you like (butterfly pea, bougainvillea, orange flower and many more). They will then guide you through hands-on making of rough saa paper, and saa paper with flower petals and leaves as decoration. This is when you can exercise your creativity as much as you wish!
