Thailand is one of the largest countries in South East Asia that has a tropical, wet climate which enables it to grow an impressive variety of native flora and fauna. The country is thought to have almost as many plant species as Europe, all crammed into a country the size of France.
Flowers such as orchids, Thai lotus, tacca chantrieri, rhizomatous perennial and hidden lily are some of the popular native flowers of Thailand. Others, such as orange trumpet, hibiscus, crinium, weeping lantana and canna lily are grown in the country and can be easily found.
Chiang Mai, also called "The Rose of the North", is famous for its array of beautiful flowers, especially during the cold season. All through December, January and February you will be able to witness and join multiple flower filled events such as a hot air balloons event at I Love Flower Farm (Dec 17 - Jan 8), along with flower blooms at Rai Dok Lan Nao, Rai Wang Than and Khun Pae Royal Project (December until end of January). There are other flower-themed events such as Chiang Mai Flower Festival (February 3-5) and those at Chaloem Phrakiat Park, Central Festival, and Central Chiang Mai Airport
