THE DRAGON DANCE

   The dragon dance is a vibrant and dynamic cultural tradition that is an integral part of Chinese New Year celebrations. This ancient ritual dates back thousands of years and holds deep symbolic meanings for the Chinese people.

   This powerful and auspicious symbol in Chinese culture, represents strength, power, and good luck. The dragon dance is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity for the coming year, as the dragon is believed to ward off evil spirits and bring blessings to the community.

   During Chinese New Year festivities, elaborate dragon costumes are paraded through the streets by a team of dancers who manipulate the dragon's movements with poles and rods. The dragon's body is usually made of colorful silk or paper, and its movements are synchronized to traditional music and drumbeats.

   The dragon dance is a spectacular sight to behold, with the dragon twisting and turning in a sinuous manner, symbolizing the mythical creature's grace and power. The dance is also accompanied by loud firecrackers and drums, creating a lively and festive atmosphere that energizes the crowd.

   In Chiang Mai, the Dragon Dance will be hold at Warorot Market, in front of the big 7/11, on January 29th at 9.30 am. 

   The dragon dance is not only a source of entertainment, but also a way to pass down traditions and cultural heritage from one generation to the next.
