Visit and learn the earthenware production process in detail, together with a visit to the source of raw materials at Terracotta Garden-Lamphun. It combines art, architecture and nature into one single experience.
Get inspired by the hundreds of terracotta pieces spanning many different cultures and time periods and immerse yourself in the laid-back atmosphere of this mystical place. Then get hands on and create your own terracotta statue. First, the instructor will walk you through the process of making pottery, such as clay refining, clay mixing, throwing the clay onto the wheel, and drying. Afterwards, you will create your own piece of art with the assistance of the instructor. It will be fired in an ancient brick production oven, called Tao Mangkorn (which literarily means dragon-shaped kiln).
A dragon kiln is a traditional Chinese style form of a kiln used for Chinese ceramics, especially in southern China. It is long and thin, and relies on having a fairly steep slope, typically between 10 degrees and 16 degrees on which the kiln runs. This kind of kiln can achieve very high temperatures, sometimes as high as 1400 degrees Celsius. Dragon Kilns are up to 60 meters long, allowing a very large number of pieces to be fired at the same time. At Terracotta Garden Lamphun, the kiln is more than thirty meters long.
After being fired, your piece of art will be send to you and bring back wonderful memories for many years to come.
